We now have an Instagram account in Spanish!

¡Ya tenemos una cuenta de Instagram en español!

Our World in Data now has an Instagram account in Spanish!

Starting this account is a first experimental step toward reaching a wider audience beyond English.

This will help us achieve our mission to make data and research on the world’s largest challenges easier to understand and use — for everyone. Together, we can make progress against those challenges.

Our first post on the account is based on Max Roser’s classic article, “The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better.”

A venn diagram schematic showing the overlap between three statements, to show that all three are true at the same time. The visualization is in Spanish, and says "Estas tres afirmaciones son ciertas a la vez: El mundo es terrible. El mundo está mucho mejor. El mundo puede estar mucho mejor."

Why Spanish?

We’ve chosen Spanish for this first step for two reasons:

Why don’t you just use AI translation tools?

We’ve experimented a lot with these, and while we’ve found that they’ve improved significantly, they’re still not entirely up to our standards of accuracy and clarity.

Why Instagram?

We’ve chosen Instagram because our English account there (@ourworldindata) is our fastest-growing account, and we have an efficient workflow for producing high-quality charts in both English and now Spanish each week.

While we might share our Spanish charts on other platforms from time to time, we don’t have the capacity to engage across all of our communications channels in Spanish.

Do you have feedback?

We love to hear it! Write to us at info@ourworldindata.org or use the feedback button in the bottom right corner of our website.

¡Gracias!
