The Living Planet Index (LPI) provides a measure of biodiversity based on the change in populations of species overtime. The index value is measured relative to freshwater species populations in 1970 (i.e. 1970 = 1). An index value of 0.5, for example, would indicate a 50 percent reduction in population levels of global species. 95% upper and lower confidence intervals are also shown in grey.
