Estimated total number of deaths as a result of the Chernobyl nuclear incident in Ukraine (1986) and Fukushima in Japan (2011), reported as upper and lower estimates. These estimates include: direct fatalities at the nuclear facility; deaths in proximate areas who died as a result of high radiation exposure; stress-induced deaths from evacuation and continental/global deaths from potential low exposure levels. These estimates reflect the long-term expected number of deaths.
